Seagate Tapedrive Technical Information

Here is information on how to install the Seagate 4324 or 4326 DAT drives. The drives from SGI (as well as drives from us that have been custom modified) have a firmware revision of 01931.

The following patches define drives with the distribution standard firmware of 28388. This "scsi" file also contains additions for HP DAT drives.

You need to replace both your "scsi" file and the "MAKEDEV helper" file, TPS_base, with the versions that are found below. By doing so, you will not only define your drive as a DAT but be able to do software compression control.

Note: Remember to make /dev/MAKEDEV.d/TPS_base executable.

o The "scsi" file (/var/sysgen/master.d/scsi) from one of our 6.2 (or 6.3) machines (Text)

This is the standard file from IRIX 6.2 (or 6.3) with entries added for the 4324, 4326 as well as HP DAT drives.

o The "MAKEDEV helper" file (/dev/MAKEDEV.d/TPS_base) from one of our 6.2 (or 6.3) machines (Text)

This is the standard file from IRIX 6.2 (or 6.3) with entries added for the 4326.

Remember to do a chmod +x on the new TPS_base file!

For 5.3 one should first apply SGI patches 1122 and 2184.

For 6.2 one should first apply SGI patch 2074.

For 6.3 one should first apply SGI patch 2838.

For 6.4 one should first apply SGI patch 2073.
